Your home comfort system is designed to cool and condition your indoor environment. The temperature is precisely controlled to ensure optimum comfort levels. Further, the air is filtered of particulates. The optional ultraviolet system removes odors and neutralizes many germs present in the air and on the equipment.
DEHUMIDIFICATION IS IMPORTANT
Dehumidification is perhaps the most critical comfort conditioning task. Water is removed from the air and may come out with a steady ‘drip-drip’ or in a small stream. The goal is to reduce the relative humidity to about 50%, far dryer than outdoors. Most of the water introduced into your daily comes through doors and windows. Moisture from washing, cooking, and respiration must likewise be removed. How much does this add up to?
A “HOW MUCH?” RULE OF THUMB
Many factors must be considered. First, the amount of humidity in the air and the size (tonnage) of the air conditioner. A good rule of thumb is one gallon of condensate per ton of cooling per day. Thus, the typical 3-ton residential air conditioner is capable of removing about 10 gallons a day of humidity from the air in your home. More typical is about half that – about 5 gallons per day. It doesn’t sound like much, but consider the amount of damage 5 gallons of water could do if it were dumped on your ceiling or wood floor. If left in the air the result would be mold, odors, and allergies.
TO PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT
Gravity delivers condensate safely to the outdoors. Even a small blockage will have unpleasant consequences because there is no force behind the water. The best way to ensure reliable drainage and protect health and property is by a quality installation and followed by scheduled maintenance. With a Complete Comfort Service Agreement, a skilled technician will be dispatched to your home twice a year to carefully inspect and service the drains. The service includes algaecide treatment and operational inspection of drain lines and overflow safety devices. Service agreements are a very effective and inexpensive way to ensure your comfort and protect your home.
